Here at Western House we love nothing more than sharing our couples special days with them, and with this in mind we thought we would launch a new feature on our website, Real Life Weddings so we can share some of them with you!
We will update this page seasonally featuring interviews and photographs of some of our wonderful couples and their wedding stories. Our next featured couple are Mr & Mrs Watson who celebrated their beautiful wedding day with us here at Western House back in May.
We caught up with Danielle and Graeme a few weeks before their big day to ask them all about their plans for the wedding and of course, the proposal!
4. What has been the best part of the planning process?
G: Danielle has really done 95% of the planning and work, but I have enjoyed being the organiser and the challenge of saving and getting everything paid off in advance.
D: I have really loved planning all the little personalised details the most, I have made sure that our theme is just perfect throughout everything and have boxes and boxes of accessories to make sure everything looks great. Our theme is Gatsby and Hollywood Glamour and it has been really fun getting to decorate and plan how everything will look on the day.
5. What has been the most challenging part of planning?
We would say it has been difficult to accommodate everyone and keep everyone happy, because we started planning so far in advance quite a few things changed in the run up to the big day. In hindsight we should have taken our time with some things and not rushed to make decisions so quickly early on in the process.
6. What would be your biggest piece of advice to newly engaged couples?
Book all the essential things first and then leave the smaller details until a little nearer the time, and also leave things that can change suddenly till last if possible.
7. What are you both most looking forward to on the big day?
D: Taking in every last detail of the day especially my walk down the staircase before the ceremony! I also can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions to the day and finally get to walk down the aisle.
G: The ceremony itself, I can’t wait to say my vows.
We made a pact when we got engaged that our wedding day would be all about us and we wouldn’t let anything else get in the way of our special day!
8. How has the Western House Hotel helped with planning your big day?
The whole team at the hotel have just been amazing in helping plan the day. The reservations team have made it so easy for our guests and families to book accommodation, communication with Jean has been really good throughout the process and everything has been easy and straightforward. The food at the hotel is brilliant and it was really great that we could try our wedding menu in advance and make any changes we wanted. Every time we have visited the hotel we have just felt so special!
The overall thing we felt really gave Western Hose Hotel the edge over the competition was the service, every single member of staff has made us feel so special since day one, and there are so many nice little touches that you just don’t get anywhere else.
1. How did you meet?
We met through a mutual friend at college, and on our wedding day it will be exactly 11 years to the day since we met properly for the first time. We started chatting online and then we went on a first date to the cinema.
2. Tell us about the proposal?
G: I only told my Dad and Brother, I bought the ring in September 2013 and the plan was always to pop the question on Christmas Day. We were approaching the ‘7 year itch’ period so it felt like the right time. I designed the ring myself!
D: I thought Graeme had been acting a little weird but I didn’t have a clue that he was planning to propose! It was our first Christmas in our new home so it was really special. We had the normal Christmas morning as per usual with gifts and breakfast, I still got all my usual presents. Afterwards I seen something in Graeme’s hand then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was so special and the reaction from my family afterwards was just the best thing ever!
3. What made you choose the Western House Hotel for your Wedding Venue?
Even though we had a long engagement we started planning straight away! After viewing a couple of other venues we saw Western House Hotel online and decided to visit, we fell in love with the hotel almost straight away as we thought the driveway and picturesque entrance to the hotel was just amazing. As we walked around the hotel and grounds everything just kept getting better and better, after our first visit we decided to bring both of our Mums to have a look around and they loved it too. On the way home from that visit we passed a bridal shop and I ended up finding my dream dress that day, for us that was such a positive sign so we booked Western House and after that it was all systems go!
Of course, we had to catch up with the happy couple after their big day to find out if it was everything they had hoped it would be;
Our wedding day was fantastic, Laura was fabulous on the day, and she was so attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly. The Western House Hotel is now like our second home and we hope that in ten years’ time we can come back and do it all over again!
